Chicago, IL

This year’s tasting will be our 44th — making it one of the oldest and longest running beer events in the country! After the pandemic forced us to skip the 2020 tasting, we are back better than ever with a very special tasting that you will not want to miss!

Attendees will participate in a blind tasting of over a dozen Chicagoland craft beers before voting on their favorites. This allows the specially procured beers to be judged strictly on their own merits. When the blind portion of the tasting ends, the beers will be revealed and will remain available for your continued enjoyment, so feel free to go back for repeated samples of all of your favorites!

The event will take place in the Beer Hall at Old Irving Brewing, and our menu for the evening features an amazing assortment of mouth-watering options from the talented crew at Old Irving:

2016 Day of the Living Ales

2016 Day of the Living Ales Winners
Be sure to check out the winners and event recap here!

The Chicago Beer Society announces the Day of the Living Ales for 2016, featuring cask conditioned ales from Chicagoland, plus selected guests.  Join us on March 5th in Chicago’s new home for real ale: Bottom Lounge.  Located at 1375 West Lake Street, Bottom Lounge is located steps from the CTA Green and Pink Lines, several bus routes, a long walk or short cab ride to two Metra stations, plus the aforementioned cabs and street parking nearby.

As usual, casks are handled by CBS’s experienced cellarmen, trained in the UK to care for and serve real ale. A properly served real ale is neither cloudy, flat, nor warm: rather  it is bright, with a gentle carbonation and served at cellar temperature. Food will be available for purchase. As always, public sessions are from 1-5 and 6-10 PM.  When finished, the lively Randolph corridor offers ample entertainment options.

Attendees will select the 2016 Champion Real Ales of Chicagoland out of nearly 40 participating breweries!

Third Wednesday – Map Room

Come and join fellow CBSers for great beer and camaraderie at one of Chicago’s premier beer bars, where there’s always a great atmosphere and an astute beer selection.

Cruise by for some after-work relaxation, and bring your CBS membership card to get $1 off non-discounted draft and bottled beers (discount does not apply to beers priced $4 or less). This informal gathering begins around 6:00 p.m. By the way, your CBS discount is available every day at Map Room, not just Third Wednesday. Just make sure to show your membership card when you order.

Map Room is located at 1949 N Hoyne Ave (SE corner of Armitage and Hoyne), in Chicago. It’s about a 10-minute walk from either the CTA El stop at Western (Blue Line) or the Metra Union Pacific North and Northwest station at Clybourn Junction. The CTA 73 Armitage bus stops virtually at the door and the 50 Damen bus is one block to the east, but neither runs very late. Cabs are always plentiful on Armitage Avenue.
